Day 13
Day 13 (Hillsboro NM to Las Cruces NM) October 11, 2021
41 degrees at 7:30 am when we started. The ride started with a climb of about 500 feet over 3-4 miles, then downhill or flat. The road had no shoulder, so we rode in the road. There were very few cars; maybe 5 an hour. So, it was pretty safe.
As the day progressed , the winds picked up. By early afternoon, the winds were gusting up tp 30 mph. I was on the recumbent, which helped some. Fighting the winds for a few hours was tiring.
We got to Los Cruces at 3 pm. Checked into the hotel, took a shower and had an interview with a reporter of the local paper. When that ended a little after 5, we started looking for a place to eat.
After a week of Mexican food, which was great, I was in the mood for Thai or Vietnamese food. We found a Vietnamese restaurant a few miles from the hotel took an Uber there. Our driver was Hector. A retired vet. We had a nice chat.
We had some really good food, again inexpensive. Hector picked us up and took us back to the hotel. It was about 7:30 pm. I called Laura and found that Amy was at the ER. She’s been having abdominal pain on and off for a few weeks. It was worse today. It’s not her appendix. The test didn’t reveal anything. She’s going for a gallbladder test later this week.
At about 8 pm, I pull out my computer. I wanted to do my journaling of the ride. I was too tired to work on my story; I would do that at 3:30 in the morning. I turn my computer on, enter my password, and it starts up. A minute that it crashes and black screens that it is being restarted. It did that several more times until it crashed before I could enter my password. So, today after riding to El Paso, I need to buy a new computer and get that set up.
