Day 23
Day 23: October 21, 2021 (Updated: Austin TX)
Amy is recovering well from her surgery. She can already tell that her digestion is working better. She’s in a good bit of pain, but overall doing very well.
I met with my niece Katie in the morning. She moved to Austin about a year ago; she lived in New Orleans for 16 years prior to that. Katie is an excellent ICU and trauma nurse. In New Orleans, her ICU unit became the Covid ICU in the early days of Covid. She was in charge of the nurses for that unit.
She said it was awful. In a two-day period, they had 30 patients die. They did not have enough help and no counseling support. She is still traumatized by the experience.
The RV is fixed. I found out about 5 PM, just before going to dinner. We are picking it up first thing in the morning on Day 24.
Beth and Kimberly are crew number 4. They arrived in Austin mid-afternoon. It was great to see them. With a virtual law firm and Covid, it’s been years since we’ve seen each other in person.
For dinner, we went to Eddie V’s in downtown Austin. There was 12 of us. It was a good meal and an excellent time. So good to see some of my friends and they all could not have been more supportive. It was quite moving.
The two bikes that I’m trying to ship back home have not yet shipped. I found out yesterday that they can’t ship the electric bike with the battery in. Why they couldn’t have told me this the day before and taking the battery out then, I don’t know.
Hopefully, today they’ll get both bikes boxed up on Day 24 and then I can arrange to ship them home. I’ll have to figure out how to get the battery home in a different manner and I’ll have to ask Bruce to take care of that for me.
